Cancer can be scary for anyone, and even more for children. There are several nuances and implications for children, the fear is greater, the unknowns are more and their belief that this ailment was caused by something they had done wrong, can be daunting.

The Imaginary Friends Society is an AR app created which allows children to design a fictional character of their choice, which is then integrated into 20 animated films to help children understand cancer and the treatments involved.

The films have been crafted beautifully and the language is both empathetic and real. It’s in a form and language which would possibly make it easier for adults as well. And this magical experience may not reduce the pain, but it definitely addresses the fear.

The intersection opportunities of storytelling and technology is remarkable and it makes it worthwhile when it can bring a smile to anyone, even in the toughest circumstances
